| Workshop 4 | Avoiding
Change Resistance and Transforming Schools Trudy Francis, Director of C21 Learning Ltd Join Trudy as she explores how to implement the New Zealand Curriculum in strategic and empowering ways. There are three themes to this workshop: - The importance of an inclusive learning culture, the early adopters and the sneeze effect - Distributed Leadership, Lead Teachers and Pilot Groups - Teacher inquiry, pedagogy matrices and support cycles Trudy first worked with teacher learners in her role as facilitator for an 'Extending High Standards across Schools' project in Palmerston North. C21 Learning was formed after shifting to Christchurch in 2008. Since then Trudy has worked in many schools throughout New Zealand, mostly long term. She uses the ideas that will be shared in this workshop in a variety of settings and has found that these strategies build capacity within the school. By building capacity within the school, projects are implemented with rigor and are sustainable.] View Handout |

with and through digital, social, mobile media: Implications for school
leaders Dr Noeline Wright, Teacher educator and educational researcher, Faculty of Education The University of Waikato There is much talk about 'Digital Natives', but this term masks what students still need help with: critical thinking, skills of analysis and knowing how to operate wisely in cyberspace. The term 'Digital Natives' assumes in the minds of many that our students already understand the ramifications of their online behaviours, and can also navigate the Internet for accurate information. However, the reality is often different. So what might be some responsibilities of educators and school leaders? Is banning mobile devices and access to social media at school the most appropriate answer? This presentation outlines some issues and ideas for educators and other school leaders. |
