Learning Our Way In The World
w
world

"Our way forward must be based on honest analysis, ditching self-serving myths, and embracing a long term vision with relentless commitment to make this a just, equitable and prosperous country, worthy of our children, and a place where talent wants to live." Prof. Paul Callaghan ELF09 speaker, New Zealander of the Year 2011.
The ELF11 theme weaved two strands together:

*Exploring new ways of learning and working
*Engaging education professionals in positive change processes

Education leaders have to meet the shifting needs of young people in today's recessionary environment. Leaders face the challenges of attracting and retaining quality teachers. grappling with new assessment or funding regimes and bringing about learning culture change to meet changing expectations.

Making New Zealand a place where talent wants to live and work means bringing about a step change in the education system to reflect today's intertwined worlds of learning and working.

ELF11 explored new ways of working and learning and demonstrates the powerful methodology of Appreciative Inquiry as a constructive way for leaders to engage education professionals in positive change processes.

Action Learning

Education Leaders Forum is not a passive spectator sport but a collaborative learning space for education leaders and aspiring leaders at all levels. Participants engage in a 21st century blended learning experience with a variety of learning vehicles from knowledge cafes and short, stimulating presentations to interactive workshops and on-line collaboratives.

Short TED-length key input sessions segue into other activities so people can process, respond, challenge and contribute. The focus is on why educational leaders at all levels must engage with their professional teams in purposeful and meaningful professional development and how to sustain engagement.

ELF participants have opportunities to:

* Network with purpose
* Exchange knowledge sharing stories
* Explore leadership case studies
* Find out what's happening upstream and downstream
* Sample the methodology and power of Appreciative Inquiry
* Accelerate the strategic planning process from vision to reality

Takeaway Resources

"People with great projects afoot…look further and more clearly into the future than people who are mired in day to day concerns. "
Robert Grudin Time and the Art of Living

Education Leaders Forum is a launching pad for learning culture change and innovation. You will leave the forum with a better understanding of a process for eliciting and distilling ideas into a vision and then a strategy to lead learning culture change at the organisational or departmental level.

The Appreciative Inquiry sequence of Discovering Dreaming Designing and Delivering is the secret of how to engage your team in formulating a collaborative action plan to turn your learning community's dreams and goals into realities.

Post-forum you will receive links to digital resources used at the forum which you can adapt for professional development with your people and thus multiply the benefits of taking part in ELF11.

Who Should Attend

Education Leaders Forum is for people from across the education and training spectrum who are leaders or potential leaders because of their position, ideas and influence and who are interested in how different parts of the learning system can better collaborate and be more responsive to changing needs.
