Forum Concept

Education Leaders Forum 2010 is about:

Leading by engaging the whole learning community-students, teachers, parents, support staff, alumni, employers and the wider community.

Articulating clear and credible leadership and learning principles, and demonstrating the value of a passion for learning and achieving.

Distributing leadership and providing timely support and resources for self-organising professionals and autonomous learners.

Helping all members of the learning community find meaning and hope in emerging complex economic and social patterns.

Facilitating the learning and feedback dimensions for educators and learners of Web 2 networking and resource sharing.

Openmindedness Exploring new ideas while appreciating the legacy of the past.

New media Understanding the transformational impact of new media on learning.

Networking and engagement A mix of stimulating inputs, knowledge cafes, small group workshops and conversations will ensure variety and engagement.

Forum Characteristics

L > C
"For an organisation to survive its rate of learning must be equal to, or greater than, the rate of change in its external environment."

Reg Revans

Networking and engagement A mix of stimulating input, knowledge cafes, small group workshops open forums and conversations will ensure variety and engagement.

Exchanging ideas, not information The aim is to exchange ideas and experiences, not information. Rather than long presentations there will be shorter overviews, linked to on-line research and resources.

Authentic conversations There will be authentic conversations among participants after short stimulus sessions and commentaries. The aim is not to defend entrenched positions but to explore new territory.

Success and failure stories Narrative will be used as a powerful way of sharing insights into professional and organisational development.

Appreciative Inquiry The methodology of Appreciative Inquiry will be used to engage participants in a positive fashion by looking at what is working well in some parts of the system and what could be applied elsewhere.

"What if…" thinking
The forum will encourage fresh thinking to explore emerging practices. Progress begins with the question "What if…".

On-line forum
An on-going web forum, hosted by Core Education, will expand the breadth and depth of engagement. Readings and research and the live forum's distilled proceedings will be available on-line for pre-forum digestion and post-forum reinforcement and follow up.
