Message of Support from the
Ministry of Economic Development

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) takes a holisitic approach to business growth and industry development. Key variables that affect growth and development include business and industry regulation, human capability, physical infrastructure, and the protection and sustainable use of natural resources.

Building partnerships across the private and public sectors enables the Ministry and its partners to work more effectively on these complex and interrelated issues. SmartNet supports this new partnership approach through connecting business people, researchers, educators and policy makers. SmartNet provides a vehicle that enables networking and knowledge sharing as well as quality discussions around strategy for industry development, including the latest e-commerce issues. The quality and professionalism exhibited by SmartNet has led to our continued support for their activities.

Message from John Scott
Chief Executive
Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology

From the outset CPIT has been a supporter of SmartNet and in 2001 has increased its sponsorship and involvement in recognition of the success and effectiveness of this forum. SmartNet promotes knowledge, skill, best practice and networking amongst businesses which are receptive to learning and change. CPIT is in the same business. We see ourselves as leading agents of success for business and individuals and are significant contributors in Canterbury's business networks.

As an institute of technology we are explicitly identified with the clever application of knowledge in business and especially with the application of new technology to best advantage. We are pleased to be associated with SmartNet because of this synergy and to be associated and identified with those who are 'Making It Happen in a Knowledge Society' and Economy. We are looking forward to integral involvement in SmartNet 2001.

Message from The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand

Around the world Governments and business recognise that building human capital is the key to success in an increasingly globalised economy.

Enhancing knowledge and skills is a vital element in this equation. At The Open Polytechnic our aim is to develop flexible ways of helping individuals and organisations meet the upskilling challenge. This includes applying new technology, and working in many different kinds of partnerships here and overseas.

The philosophy of knowledge sharing and networking across government, education and business sectors represented by SmartNet 2001, very much mirrors our own approach as an organisation. For this reason we are pleased to continue our sponsorship support for SmartNet and excited to be participating in this year's programme.
