OVERVIEW

Education Leaders Forum 2017: LIFE PASSAGES & LEARNING PATHS – making a positive difference to the life outcomes of individuals by understanding key developmental and environmental factors and identifying potential path changers in the journey from infancy to adulthood.  ELF 2017 was held on 23 & 24 August at the Millennium Hotel in Rotorua. Life Shaping Factors
“..the Dunedin study… is world-famous as a resource for psychologists, paediatricians and other researchers. Its findings even made the cover of Time magazine… ‘a unique New Zealand study’ that shows… how to shape children’s futures.”  Phil Silva- Psychology Pioneer

ELF17 was about better understanding life-shaping developmental and environmental factors which affect how well individuals learn and work. The forum picked up on the internationally renowned Dunedin, Auckland and other New Zealand longitudinal Health and Development studies and the implications for all those working with young people.

Cross-Sector Collaboration
“Insights often arise at the boundary between communities”.   Etienne Wenger

With the care system in New Zealand being transformed with the launch of Oranga Tamariki the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, educators are in a pivotal position to collaborate with others who work with children and young people and to draw on support networks when needed to enhance learning outcomes.

Who Should Attend?
The 2017 forum was the eleventh in an annual series involving Education leaders and aspiring leaders from across the learning spectrum from early childhood to post-tertiary education. ELF17 was also highly relevant for those working with children, young people and families via other agencies.
