Brian Service is currently President and CEO of Brian K. Service, Inc, a business consultancy practice established in 1994 specializing in the organization, and operational management, of start-up and troubled businesses into efficient focused units with a strategic vision of their future.
From 1996 to 2003, and after a 25 year career as a corporate CEO, Brian Service was a Principal in Regent Pacific Management Corporation. Since 2000 he was a Managing Director. In September 2002, with the end of the Regent Pacific engagement with 3D Systems Corporation, he left Regent Pacific.
Since September 1999 Brian Service was CEO and President of 3D Systems Corporation, an NASDAQ listed company specializing in solid imaging. A Regent Pacific Management Corporation engagement until September 2002, he lead a team of 5 Regent Pacific personnel charged with the stabilization, recovery, and establishment of expanded activity, in the company. In August 2003 he decided not to renew his contract and to immediately step down from his CEO position. For a period from February 2001 he was also been part of the RPMC engagement team at Accelerated Networks Inc., a NASDAQ listed company specializing in broadband telecommunication equipment.
This followed the establishment of his own business consultancy practice in 1994. He specializes in the organization, and operation of start-up and troubled businesses into efficient focused units with a strategic vision of their future, and in the organization of start-up and developmental businesses. His depth of experience in international business and analytical skills enable him to quickly cut to the heart of a businesss problems, to formulate a recovery plan, and to implement it by motivating, encouraging and coaching the organizations people( in many cases through direct operational involvement) - the key ingredient in any enterprise.
Brian Service began his business career at the age of 27, when, as a recent college graduate (First Class Honors) he was appointed as the foundation employee of a start-up pharmaceutical company. Over a 14 year period he was to guide the fledgling company through site acquisition, plant construction, personnel hiring, commissioning of the plant, and establishing of the international sales and marketing network in North America and Europe.
His success led to his being head hunted in 1986 to the position of Chairman and CEO of Milk Products (North America) Inc., based in California. Under his guidance, turnover increased from $150 million to $450 million. Returning to New Zealand in 1992, he took up the position of CEO of Salmond Smith Biolab Ltd., and transformed the company from an under-performing group of 21 diverse business units, into a highly focused 3 division company, with greatly improved sales, profit and stock price.
At the end of 1994 Brian left corporate life to establish his business consulting practice in Northern California. He immediately undertook a major project for a large California wine producer, overseeing the acquisition of a diverse group of European companies, and structured these offshore investments into a commercially efficient and tax effective operation. Client services have been provided in North and South America, United Kingdom, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
